re: IMPORTANT: Kin Rules

0
Thank you for your interest in the PoME! We are a social kin for first-time players and experienced adventurers alike. We recognize that family is the first priority and playing LOTRO is meant to be fun and relaxing - not another source of stress! With that in mind, we have a few simple rules:

- Membership requirements: Parents, married and/or 30+ yrs of age. Some flexibility in requirements; please talk to an officer.

- Mutual respect for all players and NO cussing in chatting with other kin members (this includes the kinship forums). NO insults, racial slurs, etc. are tolerated at any time.

- All kin members must have a 'Note' for each character on the Kinship panel - 'Main' for main characters and 'Alt - (Main Name)' - right column of Kinship panel shows 'Notes.'

- Two-week trial period for new recruits. After 2 weeks, an officer will consider promotion to Kinsman.

- Characters that have been inactive (not logged in) for 180 days or more will be removed from the kinship.

re: Follow-up

I am putting this up after talking with a fellow officer and them explaining to me that it wasn't until now did they fully understand why we have the rules we do. It made me realize that we never made it clear to the kin why we have the rules we do and that is truly the founders faults and could have saved a lot of headache over the years. With that being said I am giving a review of the rules and the reasoning why we have them. I will use Faragrim's post as the guide.

Thank you for your interest in the PoME! We are a social kin for first-time players and experienced adventurers alike. We recognize that family is the first priority and playing LOTRO is meant to be fun and relaxing - not another source of stress! With that in mind, we have a few simple rules: We wanted to have fun. We wanted the ability to socialize with other people who wanted to keep the game light hearted and fun. If we were doing something in the kin we would offer it up for other members to join but no one would be required to attend, and we have not expectations of anyone other than to stay in the fence (to be explained further).

We wanted simple rules, something easy to remember something easy to monitor. We wanted to make a playground for people to play in with their own style within the comforts of our fence of rules. We decided to make simple rules so no one had to walk a line and stay on that line or enforce when someone stepped off that line. There will be no playground monitors and choices are left up to the kin member to what they are going to do in our playground.

- Membership requirements: Parents, married and/or 30+ yrs of age. Some flexibility in requirements; please talk to an officer.
We chose this after a very long discussion. We want a social kin. We want a place where we can come, relax and have fun. Having parents and/or couples gives us a common thread in which we can talk in kin chat and knowing there are fellow kin members who went through or are going through the same thing. The age requirement was selected for maturity. Not maturity in that the kin member would not joke or have fun but the maturity to be able to self govern and monitor their own behavior. The maturity to know that certain things should or should not be done or said, to know when things are and are not appropriate and choose the correct action from this.
We want people in these categories to avoid drama, and to set a general theme for what could be talked about in the kin chat. We do not want to deal with crushes or bullying. The exact wording of who we allow in is not as important as the general thought of the type of people who would be the best group of people to have on this playground. These people would have developed patience, compassion, understanding and be able, without needing to be reminded, know that this was only a game.

- Mutual respect for all players and NO cussing in chatting with other kin members (this includes the kinship forums). NO insults, racial slurs, etc. are tolerated at any time.
Mutual respect is THE rule and the only rule we wanted to have for the kin. Without this rule we can not keep the fence of 'this is a game life comes first, leave when you need, come play when you can'. Mature players understand this is a playground where anyone who wants to play can play. They understand if someone needs help that it is good to help. A mature player understands some players want to play dodgeball and other players want to have a tea party.
Cussing, and anything demeaning is not accepted in the kin because though with some this is acceptable amongst adults in this playground where mutual respect is key we need to make clear that things like this will be kept in ones home and not brought into ours through this playground. No one will hurt another otherwise it is not fun (please see above, we are here to have fun).

We stated our goal, we stated who we would let in and we stated THE rule. Follow the rule and we reach the goal of having fun. Be mature enough and you understand that you are in charge of governing yourself. We want people of this type so we would not have to make a line, so we would not have to set rules like no running, no talking in the hallway, raise your hand, take turns and all that silly stuff that needs to be there until people are mature enough to know how they should and should not behave.
Members who are mature enough to govern themselves allow us to have a safe and fun area to play in.

- All kin members must have a 'Note' for each character on the Kinship panel - 'Main' for main characters and 'Alt - (Main Name)' - right column of Kinship panel shows 'Notes.' We just wanted a way to keep track of people so we would not have to ask 'who are you again?' and then get embarrassed if we forgot. (I needed this the most and still I forget)

- Two-week trial period for new recruits. After 2 weeks, an officer will consider promotion to Kinsman. This is to allow people to play in our kiddy pool and allow the officers the ability to keep an eye on new recruits. We picked this amount of time because we felt that anyone who did not want to play in our playground would leave in that time and if they were going to not play by the rules they would do so during this time and we would never allow them on the playground.

- Characters that have been inactive (not logged in) for 180 days or more will be removed from the kinship. It took a while to pick a number but usually in that amount of time people come back or they do not. Doing this keeps the kin list down so if someone is looking for person to contact to play with or send something to they would have a lower chance of picking someone who would never be on again. We are mature enough to let people leave when they need and will gladly welcome people back when they want to play again.

Why some people are selected as officers
We picked a person as an officer because of all the kin members, who were on at the time, they best displayed how to play in the playground. They have little red flags so that when someone new comes to the playground they will know that they can ask these people for advice, go to for help or use to help find where they fit in within the kin. Each of them bring different things to the kin and their diversity in how they play provide an enriched environment for getting enjoyment out of playing the game. They were picked because they are exactly who we want on the playground. Officers are welcome to be officers as long as they wish to be and are welcome to step down at any time for their own reasons without any repercussions.

We expect to have mature players who can take care of their own behavior so that our officers will not have to be lords or dictators, to punish or control. We all play to have fun including our officers. We understand this is not for everyone. You are welcome to join, provided you fit our requirements, agree to our rules and follow them. We enjoy playing and look forward to seeing you in the game.
